Welcome to our thoughts of the beautiful Roka Resort on Bintan Island.
This resort is absolutely wonderful. So clean tidy and attention to detail was everything.
The restaurant over looking the water was so relaxing. The food and drinks were so fresh, full of flavour, tasty and delicious. We wanted to work our way through the whole menu. We tried really hard with the time we had. There was a lot of love put into it food and to make our experience relaxed and fun while dining.
It definitely is not your commercial and price driven resort but an adult only relaxing and thoughtful presented. Our room was huge and tastefully decorated with plenty of room to spread out and relax.
The staff were so helpful and nothing was a problem and made sure our stay was perfect.
We would definitely recommend if you want a quiet, gorgeous, relaxing off the beaten path stay at very reasonable prices.
Simply excellent! - 11 Aug 2024

Very secluded and relaxing place, rooms are great, large and newly decorated. unfortunately the restaurant evening meals were limited and average. Think they must have changed chef since earlier reviews. Breakfast is included but not buffet, you can order one thing from menu as well as coffee/tea, juice, fruit. We wanted more variety for the fruit, had to ask for bananas, no papaya or rambutans etc, only watermelon:) - 11 Aug 2024

A perfect place to disconnect and de-stress, Roka Resort is a cosy and quiet little resort located in the north side of Bintan with only 14 well-appointed rooms and an expansive private beach.
Pluses -
Spacious rooms with quality furnishing and fittings, huge clean bathroom with separate toilet and shower stalls, double sinks, toiletries (except for toothbrush and toothpaste) and hairdryer provided. Sufficient closet space, mini fridge and room safe but no TV. Mattress was firm but comfortable and pillows were soft and fluffy.
Free use of sit-on-top kayaks, PFDs, paddles and also SUP boards. You can paddle to the little island called Pulau Sumpat in front of the resort or the mangroves to the right. Make sure to check high and low tide times as you don't want to have to drag your kayaks back when the tide goes down! The waters are crystal clear and shallow all the way to the island and immediately around it. There was a small group of Orang Laut (sea nomads) in their boats anchored near to the island. We respected their privacy and kept our distance as we circumnavigated the island. Do take note also to hydrate well and wear full UV protective clothing and apply sunblock to all exposed skin areas as the heat and UV levels were in the extreme range in June when we were there. There's also a small (highly chlorinated) swimming pool. Other than that there's nothing else much to do but maybe explore the area a bit and chillax.
Food at the resorts Sambhuya restaurant was generally good but some dishes were hit and miss or not available and pricey for Indonesian standards. There's a warung (local food stall) nearby but we didn't try it.
Staff were friendly and responsive when needed. Special mention to Harun who cheerfully attended to our requests and enquiries and to server Anna, as well as the housekeeping and reception staff.
Late check out wasn't a problem as the rooms were not fully occupied during that period.
Minuses -
There may be mosquitoes and sand flies but insect repellant is provided and available.
As with most of Bintan, trash is burned on site as there is not much of a recycling culture or infrastructure there.
When we checked in to our room, there were some stains on the bed cover and some of the towels although they appeared to have been washed and smelled nice. Probably stains that were not properly cleaned. We requested for them to be changed and this was promptly done.
I did get some bedbug bites on my back on the last day, possibly from one of chair cushions in the restaurant or room although my partner didn't. - 11 Jul 2024

Lovely resort! Now, the good and the bad...
Good
Peaceful, and quaint resort, with top notch service. Fantastic service staff. The bar (advertised as a bar, though u would hardly call it a bar), is very nice, and perfect for star gazing. Clear waters too. The sea sports equipment is free. And we spend hours kayaking and swimming in the open sea. Spacious room. Motorbikes and scooters were for rent, and we rented a scrambler to ride to town, and did some offroading on the way back.
The bad
Water pump tricking water when showering, but that was fixed after the staff came over and fixed some pumping voodoo. Location is kind of remote, but that could be a good thing too.
Overall, it has been a fantastic experience! - 11 Apr 2024

What we liked:
1. Quiet & tranquil - we were often the only guests sitting and talking on the pier, or in the restaurant. We liked the fact that there wasn't loud music from the restaurant or pub.
2. Attentive and friendly staff who didn't hover.
3. Value for money - huge room for the price paid.
4. Great view of the sunset.
Some other factors to keep in mind:
1. Relatively far from other resorts = limited food options. Besides the decent resort restaurant, there's a nearby warung that has decent reviews (we didn't try it)
2. Limited activities / facilities due to small size of resort (only 14 rooms). E.g. No complimentary transfer to/from the ferry terminal. Complimentary breakfast was not a buffet, so take note if you're a big eater.
3. Some sewage smell in the toilet. We couldn't smell it from the bedroom and it didn't bother us too much even when we were using the toilet.
4. Cats & dogs - we counted 5 cats and 2 dogs. All the animals were friendly and roam freely. Take note if you have allergies or don't like animals. - 11 Apr 2024

Totally love this resort. Finally step foot and the stay was amazingly unwind. Adults only, no loud music just soaking in nature and tranquillity. Took opportunity of super low tide did a walk from Roka Resort to Pulau Sumpat. I love such detach of hustle and bustle as allows me to have a proper restful recharge. Just the ticket, quiet, relaxing, beautiful setting with very helpful staff. Rooms were exceptionally well decorated, big comfy bed and the restaurant was picturesque with sea views. No noisy children! We loved the animals who were all very well behaved. Itā€™s a shame we couldnā€™t spend more time there. We will definitely go back! - 11 Mar 2024
